Lip Enhancement – Luscious Lips with Lip Augmentation
Lip augmentation can help most anyone improve or restore contour and fullness, providing larger, sexier lips. The key to successful lip augmentation is to address all aspects of the lips, including the inner lip, the edge, and the outer mouth. Some products are better suited for these purposes than others.
What is used for lip augmentation?
At Modern Medical & Wellness in Las Vegas, we have found that injectable fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, Juviderm, and Belotero are the most appropriate choice for lip augmentation. These hyaluronic acid fillers are made of a naturally occurring bodily substance that hydrates and volumizes tissue. The soft yet strong composition makes these fillers ideal for plumping up thin lips. Hyaluronic acid is also known ability to shape and enhance the lips.
Lip augmentation is a procedure that can be done through surgery or non-surgical techniques.
The lips have very specific proportions, for example the upper lip to lower lip ratio is 1/3 to 2/3. That’s right: The lower lip is fuller than the upper lip and it’s supposed to be this way! Anything else, will give a very unnatural appearance, what is commonly referred to as “ducky lips”, where the upper lip is too big and sticks out compared with the lower lip. There is also a specific balance between the white part of the lip and the red part of the lip. If this balance is distorted, one can get the poor result referred to as “sausage lips”, where there is no respect for the borders of the red lip or for proportion and shape.
Like all procedures in cosmetic plastic surgery, lip enhancement is a procedure that requires an aesthetic eye focusing on lip shape, balance between the two lips, and how the lips fit a particular face. Lip shapes vary from person to person and the amount of natural-looking augmentation that is possible will also vary based on this.
Easily done in the office with a simple injection, the results are immediate and the recovery is minimal. Stop by on a lunch break and leave with voluminous lips and diminished frown lines.
Lip enhancement and augmentation may enhance one’s facial appearance by creating a fuller more seductive look with luscious lips. This fuller appearance can be achieved by one of three different procedures:
- Adding a substance, such as a dermal or skin filler
- Using one’s own soft tissue, lip tissue itself, fat
- PRP: Platelet Rich Plasma
Temporary techniques involve an injectable skin or dermal filler that need repeat injections every 6-18 months. The current options include the hyaluronic acid (HLA) fillers to include:
The advantages of the HLA dermal fillers are:
- They are easy to inject
- Performed under topical or nerve block local anesthesia
- Subtle lip asymmetries can be corrected with fillers
- Soft, natural feel
The disadvantages of the HLA dermal fillers are:
- The fillers are temporary, lasting 6-18 months
- Each time an injection is necessary is somewhat uncomfortable
- Injections of filler into the bulk of the lip are absorbed more rapidly
Also, by using a blunt tip cannula to administer the filler, the procedure is less painful, more rapid recovery with less bruising, little to no risk of injecting into a blood vessel or causing an embolism since the vessels move out of the way of the blunt tip cannula during administration.
